Bluetooth Mesh Models cover a wide range of applications with lighting and sensing as the primary focal point. This is not accidental; lighting control networks create a mesh foundation for environmental sensors in buildings. When old lights are retrofitted with Bluetooth mesh enabled LED luminaires, the building instantly becomes equipped with a variety of connected sensors used in many applications beyond lighting. Energy monitoring, space utilization, location beacons, asset tracking - it all becomes possible due to a multi-service nature of Bluetooth.

Over 200 million 911 calls are made in the USA every year, with a significant percentage being made from indoors. The responders to these calls rely on accurate location information to get to them quickly, and this is where Bluetooth comes in. The National Emergency Address Database was created to improve location information, utilising Bluetooth beacons to get responders to victims in a timely manner. How did this project begin and how can the rest of the ecosystem get involved?
